The below post was inspired by the handsome devil in the gorgeous jacket. I would pass out if he came walking up the isle towards me! He looks like an english gent who would spend his days reading F. Scott Fitzgerald by the fire sipping brandy.

I am currently adoring online shopping, as NZ is a rather small and limited market. Some of my favorite spots for vintage inspired fashion are Ruche, Asos, and Modcloth. Check them out for things like bridesmaids dresses and gifts, grooms attire (asos) and shoes, glorious shoes!! I have included a few items in the board below.

Venice is one of those cities that I think everyone dreams of visiting, and would make such a romantic Honeymoon destination.

Downton Abbey Geek-out

Ok, so please forgive me my nerdiness, but I have just read the Downton Abbey book. Yes, there was a behind the scenes book published about the history of the era and how things would have worked in a house similar to Downton. So interesting to read and the photographs were just gorgeous. I was swooning all over the place pawing over images of the sumptuous gowns and glimmering silverware.

This was an uncertain time, especially for young ladies as they were still bound by tradition, but the hope of freedom was on the horizon with the Suffragettes and also the first world war, which allowed women to get out of the house and contribute to the effort.

Anyway, the book naturally led me to a Downton inspired post. Think absolute luxury, vintage lace and silk, and of course monogrammed invitations my dear. Follow this link for a cute Customiseable monogram template.

Dresses to make your dreams come true!

I thought it was about time for some pure and simple eye candy/dress inspiration so I trawled the web for some confections. The new spring collections are out in the US and also the Temperley London website has some totally droolworthy peices. I loved them so much that I couldn't pick just one for this post! Here are my favorites. Hope you enjoy perving at these pretties as much as I did.
(PS. there is a definite 1920's goddess trend going on out there.)

1 A stunning look from Alberta Ferreti. I love the contrast between total fairy princess on the bottom and glam casual on the top. So unique! 2 And the folds, pleats and ruffles on this gorgeous sand coloured Vera Wang are a floaty geometric masterpiece.

3 Jenny Packham made it hard for me to choose my favorite out of the array of stunners in this collection. Delicious, yum, gorgeous, amazing! 4 This little old world beauty was found on Etsy, by The English Dept. Simple but so drop dead wonderful!

5+6 My obession with Temperley London means both of these incredible pieces are on my favorites list. Modern glamour / 20's chic. If you want all eyes on you at your wedding (which of course you do!) either of these gowns would do the trick.

7 The lovely Monique Lhuillier is the go to gal for ethereal, soft bridal gowns. This look makes me go all marshmallowy inside. So Romantic. 8 Temperley London does it again with more 1920's inspired goodness. This photo is fantastic and the dress is fantastic-er.

9 If you like a soft billowy look with all the detail up top, this treasure found on Etsy hits all the right notes, and 10 from the oh-so-right Temperley London (Enough said!)

Ok I'm a little excited. When I came across the most gorgeous baby shoes I have ever laid eyes on on Pinterest, I'm telling you my heart started beating faster, my mouth went dry and I said to myself...my baby must have at least one pair of Joyfolie shoes! OK they are kind of pricey but worth it! They are drop.dead.amazing...And they ship to NZ!!!!!!

My wedding was well over a year ago now but my close friend and compadre/co-bloggerist has her own nuptials coming up and it got me remembering my lovely day. I shared some of my photo's with you all back then but here are some more of the special moments and details. What is really sad is that the lovely church we were married in has been seriously damaged buy the canterbury earthquake so we really cherish our pictures of the way it was. It makes me excited for Helen as she will be making her own special memories soon that she will look back on throughout her life. Thanks to Moda fotografica for the photography and Ruby and Willow for the invites.

I got married last year and one of my few regrets was that I couldn't find a suitable accessory to go with my gown. Wouldn't you know it, 19 months too late I found the one I want!! Love this Headband!!! jensen|andrews is an Auckland based boutique bridal business that offer MODERN accessories. Thank you!! Finally NZ seems to be catching up and leaving the 80's behind! Joy!

They are based in Auckland, but can make to order and send products throughout the country. And if you are anything like me...super intent on having exactly what is in my imagination, they can create pieces from sketches made by the bride. I love that they use gorgeous silk and lace and the designs are very vintage inspired. YUM!

Have you ever thought of having a wedding film made. I always toyed with the idea but had visions of cheesy home movies with awkward 'where do I look' and 'how do I hold my arms' moments. BUT I came across this gorgeous wedding video and my mind was changed completely! Stunning. What a way to capture the atmosphere of your big day. Still shots are great but I think you will agree with me when you see this, that film can really invoke the mood of the day.

Disney Princess Series; Ariel

I feel a little sad that the Disney Princess series has ended. I really enjoyed putting together the inspiration outfits.
Recently, I watched The Little Mermaid II. I have to wonder about myself. ha! Girls obviously never grow out of the princess stage!

Disney Princess Series; Jasmine

I think Jasmine is the most forgettable of the Princesses. I think it may have something to do with the lack of a Meringue Gown.
Jasmine is still pretty awesome, though.
She is best friends with a TIGER! Hence the Raja inspired necklace selection. =]

I am in LOVE with this colour combination! The rustic green, with the biscuit is so complimentary and the gold mixed in gives the outfit a classier edge.
I can see this outfit in a destination wedding, you could even swap the shoes for some green flip flops!

I think that the outfit would lend nicely to a Bridesmaid. The berry red of the dress is such a delectable shade, and makes a great statement. Would go fantastically with a wedding theme of rosy pinks & ecru.
The black shawl accentuates the black on the waist of the dress, and I can picture it being worn as a shawl over the shoulders, or maybe hanging at the elbows of your bridesmaid. {It is also a nice wee reference to Aurora in the forest! See below!}

Good evening Brides & Vendors!

I've been wondering for a while what inspiration I could post for you next. Then I had a dress fitting this morning.
I would be lying if I said it hasn't made me excited.
How, I hear you ask Is she going to tie this in with inspiration, rather than a garbled mess of words on how excited she is for her own Wedding?

Well, my dears, I felt like a Princess. My dress isn't even finished, and it made me feel a million dollars. Feeling like a Princess is something, I hope, that every Bride gets. On that note, I thought; What better way to get inspiration, than from the best Princesses EVER!? I'm afraid I'm not talking about Diana or Katherine, though I'm sure there are plenty of Wedding blog posts out there about them.
I am talking about Disney Princesses.
I dare you to look me in the eye... well, screen, and tell me you have never wanted to be Aurora.
Ah! See, you wanted to be a Princess when you were younger too!

Stop rambling, Woman! I hear you cry.

It's been a long time...

My, my my. What a year we have had!

Things are still not back to normal, and I fear it is still to be a while until life is back on a steady track!

Blogging is, I'm afraid not too high up the list of things to do, but I will really try to do as much blogging as possible!

The wedding is SO close. Three months to go! I really wish I was more organised!
We have had a bit of a hiccough with the venue. =/

It has turned out to be more damaged by the June Earthquake than was originally thought, and is subsequently yellow stickered (restricted access) this means that the beautiful dining room will not be accessible for the reception. With such a short time frame, finding another place is out of the question. We are having a marquee set up on site, which while it is not ideal, is still a venue and a roof over the heads of our guests. I will work to try and make it as beautiful as the house interior!

Damage to the bedroom. [This is where I was going to get changed on the day. =( ]

But for now, On to the goodies!

Good News for Vintage Lovers, Christchurch!

Tete a Tete and Two Squirrels Vintage sadly have been extensively damaged in the earthquakes and The shop locations are within the cordon. Vanessa & Warren are saying goodnight to Tete a Tete - But there is some good news in this story! Two Squirrels Vintage will be re-opening at a currently secret location, on the 2nd of September. Almost a year to the day of the first earthquake.

I wish Vanessa & Warren the best of luck, and look forward to shopping with them soon!

Any of the headpieces would make fabulous accessories for your bridesmaids, or even just get yourself a delectable birdcage veil, like "The Valerie" below.

There are even adorable scalloped shorts, floral print skirts, and mini bow hair clips!

Next up is an adorable little DIY project.

Wedding rings are expensive, [We might even get ours from overseas!] But if you are DIY inclined, and have tools at hand, try out this DIY silver ring!

You could use a 50c coin, which is very much the same size as the 10p used in the tutorial!

I love the hammered look of rings, and this is just so cute, and upcycled! You could try making a pair, or even making a little gift for a Bridesmaid or Groomsman.

I even think it would look nice on a chain if it doesn't fit.

Earthquake News, and some inspiration. =]

Good morning, friends.

I do hope this finds you all well.

What can I say? It has definitely been a trying seven months for us over here in Canterbury.

First of all with the September Quake, which left us pretty darn rattled. The Canterbury spirit came out in force, and got back into it, I managed to get back to work in the city only a week after the event.

Then we had Boxing day, which closed a lot of the buildings in the city again, not to mention the constant unnerving aftershocks, practically every day.

By February, things were beginning to get back on track, {I even posted on The Blog!} our work was back up and running, more people were returning to the city to shop. 'Brilliant!' We thought, 'Definitely down, but not out!'.

My working week tends to start on a Sunday, and that Sunday I had a very odd feeling. I did not want to go to work, at all. I shrugged it off, thinking I was just tired from not getting much sleep, but the same happened on the Monday. I thought it very strange that I should still be so negative about going to work, I slept pretty well the night before, I wasn't tired at all.

I awoke on the Tuesday, and it was an odd day from the word go. The air felt heavy, and my feeling hadn't subsided. 'Maybe it's just one of those weeks' I thought to myself.

Work was pretty manic that day, our first day of having two testing rooms running - lots of patients!

In the middle of booking an appointment for a patient, she swore down the phone, not in an aggressive way, but it took me a moment. "What the f**k?!" for a split second I thought she was swearing at me, but then it hit, The phone went flying out of my hand, and I almost followed it across the desk. I will never forget watching a lady in the street throw her arms up, and scream, trying to run, but stumbling against the moving street. The glass above the store broke in what seemed like a chain reaction, a shower of glass fell in front of the store.

I held myself up between the desk and the drawers, and somehow managed to make it to my Boss and a Co-worker who were close by.

"Its a big one!" My boss yelled at me over the rumbling, and the creaking of the building. Her face was white, and we all stood, holding each others arms for stability against the shaking ground.

It seemed to last forever, when it subsided for a moment, the Optometrists and patients poked their heads out of the door, everyone was in a state of shock. "What just happened?" they asked, [neither of the Optometrists were Christchurch Locals]

You could hear screams, and dust began to drift down the street. We didn't need to tell them.

The shocks kept hitting, but we couldn't decide if we would go outside in the street, or stay in the store.

We eventually decided that we just need to move, we need to get out of the city, away from buildings. I made a mad dash down the back of the store to get my phone and bag, and grabbed whoever else's belongings were on the pegs.
Thankfully, throughout all this drama, I saw Laura and her Husband. It helped knowing that they were okay, one less person to frantically try to get hold of on overloaded phone lines.

We followed the evacuation down to Cathedral Square. My Dad managed to ring me, and I broke down at his voice, and the sight of the Cathedral.

We then got evacuated to Hagley Park, where we stayed for about an hour, unsure what to do. We then decided we all just wanted to get home, so we walked. We went our separate ways, and I walked for about three hours out of town, and my Brother managed to pick me up on the way out of the city. We were very lucky to be living out of the city at the time. We had power and water come straight back on.

At home I had the best cup of tea ever. I couldn't stop crying for hours, if not days. Every time I saw or heard something on the news, It would make me cry my eyes out. An absolutely terrifying experience, one which I wish never to experience again!

Well, I apologise for that post going on for a while, It became a bit of a rambling mess. We will try to do some blogging, but between Wedding Planning, and all the Post-Earthquake drama, its hard to find a moment to sit down with my beloved, never mind sit down with the lovely Blog and fill in a post!
I will however, try my best. =]

While sharing the amazing experience of wedding dress hunting with a very good friend recently, my passion for gowns was well and truly reignited! I nearly had a coronary each time she came out from behind the silky curtain, each dress looking more gorgeous than the last. I love a good strong silhouette on a dress, and these styles really caught my eye. Most of the dresses I have chosen are available in NZ also which is a super- bonus. Although I won't be needing another dress anytime soon...sad face.

I've got a wee crush on short gloves. Feminine, lacy and vintage if possible.

It takes a confident bride to wear gloves for her big day, but how gorgeous for an autumn or winter wedding! If you think you can carry off this look keep a few things in mind...

Match the weight of gloves to your gown.

You dont want to wear too heavy a glove with a delicate dress.

Avoiding stark white is the way to go if you dont want to look like Minnie mouse. See the gorgeous honey toned examples below. Close to skin tone is far more subtle.

If you want the gloved look but don't want your own hands covered ( for bling reasons), give your bridesmaids a cute fifties vibe and glove 'em up.

Is it possible to beat a miniature cake with delicate decorations? Until recently, cupcakes enjoyed an unchallenged reign as most trendy sweet treat.

They can be individually boxed as favors that you can personalize with icing and decorations relating to your theme, or you could create a cupcake bar with multiple flavors. It would be a lot of fun to supply a variety of butter creams and have guests decorate their own dessert!

I am still LOVING the anything-but-white Wedding Dress trend.

I saw the Spring Elie Saab Couture line and was overwhelmed by the gorgeous gowns. The colours are incredible, and the amount of inspiration is phenomenal. Imagine the gown you could have if you took these pictures to a dressmaker!

Generally, I shy away from checking out couture lines, I tend to find they are FAR too over the top, but this one is just beautiful. The colours are soft and light, just like spring! I had to share it!

I love the abstract neckline of four, and the gorgeous voluminous flowing fabric. It is in tight competition with number three in the run for favourite!

Well, hasn't this year flown by?! We are already in October! This means it is approximately 13 months until I Tie The Knot! Eep!
In other October news; As many of you will know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month!

As something close to me, I have compiled this Think Pink inspiration board in support of women and their families all over New Zealand - and the World, who are affected by Breast Cancer every day.

I know everyone is sick of hearing it, but it is so true.

Keep it simple with a soft, neutral base tone to your Wedding, and dress it up with some interesting prints or textures.

It gives you a clean, tailored, romantic look without half the hassle of trying to match up colours!

Remember, 9 times out of 10, the Wedding dress is going to be a shade of white, so why not just go with it, and find some really quirky pieces for table centres or backdrops?

This is a popular combo... and why not. You get the softness of grey with the upbeat joy of yellow. Grey ranges from beige tones to blue based hues and all work incredibly well with yellow. My one tip would be, try to keep your shade of sunshine soft, and avoid eye jarring fluro lemon.

It's been a while since we touched on the subject of Groom's style, and I still stand by the fact that Male Celebrities with their glamorous events [and personal stylists] are an excellent way to get a feel for what is in right now.

In bringing you all this post, I am gorging myself on another of my celebrity crushes. What a good excuse to indulge, this blogging business!

Joseph Gordon Levitt has come a long way since his 3rd Rock From The Sun days, and so has his style.

I have no problem in basing a Groom's outfit on his style!

The left is is my favourite outift from all of these. I love the quirky Waistcoat! How about a casual t-shirt and blazer look for a morning-after brunch?

Having a casual wedding? Why not try suit trousers, with corresponding shirt, tie and jumper? Another option is an open collar and mismatched jacket and trousers.

I love the colours in this shot. The navy suit and burgandy tie... to die for!

Music is great. It's also a very personal thing. Choosing wedding music is a VERY difficult task! I know this as I have recently experienced the challenge of putting together a playlist for my own wedding.
(We had an Ipod playing.)

A few tips

#1 You can't please everyone so you may as well please yourself! ( However, I tried to put a little something in for those very special to me.)
#2 Try to steer clear of explicit lyrics... for obvious reasons.
#3 Have friends contribute by asking them what they would like to hear at your wedding.
#4 Plan your wedding tunes in sections as in: Ceremony music/ Dinner music/ Speeches music ( pref quiet) /Dancing and or Party music. You can create very different atmospheres for each period of time. In general, the music you play for the dinner will be quite relaxed while after dinner will be more celebratory and upbeat, but again thats all up to you.
#5 Not all your songs have to be love songs. Choose tracks that hold memories for the both of you, for your families and your friends. If its a little dorky, that's ok... its your wedding.
#6 Having a era theme for your wedding eg. 20's, 50's, 60's, Rock'n'roll, Country, makes choosing your music a little easier as you have a direction to go in.
#7 The best way to find songs you like is to listen to lots of music!

I am seriously loving the lettering/monogram trend. But what I am loving even more is the wording trend.

There is bunting all around with 'Married' or the Bride and Grooms names on. And I love it. It makes such a statement. You don't even need to stop at 'Gettin' Hitched!' How about a meaningful lyric, screen printed on a sheet above the head table?

It makes me reminisce being a romantic teenage girl, who loved all things pretty and nostalgic. And of course those donuts are fantastic!! Keep this palette chic by not over using the glittering gold. Instead supplement it with honey tones and leave plenty of white/ ivory space.

I must apologise for my silence, I am currently on holiday from work and have been rather absent. Not the best weather to be on a break, however, I'm quite happy just chilling out with the massive bruise I got from ice skating at Lake Tekapo. =/ I am also going away with a girlfriend for a couple of nights, which should be smashing - I haven't done that in ages!

I am obsessed with destination weddings right now, in case you hadn't noticed....

Another dream destination just has to be Venice.

I would keep an old world charm, dusty hues and splashes of sumptuous colour, with lots of textures. Im talking a mass of ribbons and feathers and lace. How about a masquerade procession through the canals with all the guests on gondolas? And of course, a mountain of gelato at the reception!

If there is ever a place for neutrality, it's a wedding.

Give a coffee-cream palette some punch with strokes of black, and add interest with stripes.

This colour theme lends itself to a 1920's twist. I love the tassels on the black bridesmaid dress in row 2. And the bride's glasses!! Super cute!

Getaway; Iceland

Another almost "trend" I have noticed lately is quirky destination Weddings. Namely in Iceland. Did you see this divine wedding?

Iceland is a place I have always wanted to visit. Sure, one of it's un-pronounceable volcanoes erupted and brought the northern hemisphere to a standstill, but Iceland didn't ask to sit atop two tectonic plates.

Iceland looks astoundingly beautiful. And the language is too. [Take a listen to the language being sung via another love of mine; sigur rós.]
Imagine a wonderful cozy indoor wedding during the afternoon, and then meet up with all your guests for a late night, camp fire lit reception, beneath the heart stopping Aurora.

I have put together a getaway inspiration board for you.

I think an Icelandic getaway wedding would be full of textures and rich colours. I just dont think you could have a wedding in summer in Iceland. it needs snow on the mountains to add that extra contrast to a warming palette.
Alternatively you could go all out rustic, grey-white with rich woody tones with maybe a splash of a dusty red or blue.
What other countries do you think would make great Wedding destinations or Honeymoon getaways? Any suggestions?

A black wedding theme doesn't necessarily need to be ultra-modern or classique.

You can keep it looking laid back, without it being harsh and overruling.

I would definately team black with shades of dusty blues and grey.
Black is definitely a hard colour, but don't be afraid to accessorize! How about with a gorgeous necklace from yesterdays post?!

I can see some quirky little bow ties for the groomsmen, and floaty, casual dresses for the bridesmaids. Bouquets of white anemones and maybe some green hellebores?

I am not really a fan of the beach wedding.Mostly because I'm a baby and I just don't think I would enjoy the sand + wedding gown + hot sun. I do however think a laid back, evening celebration would be fun. It would need to be super casual and comfy...

BBQ'd sossies and toasted marshmallows, a cold beer or hot chocolate in hand. Kids playing soccer on the beach and grown ups, celebrating around the bonfire. Buckets of flowers buried in the sand and hanging outdoor lights.

Today, I got sent home from work for being so poorly! But I have created a magical inspiration board for you! {Since I don't know what else to do whilst snuggled up in bed, bored!} I thought I would try a colour I wouldn't usually play with.

Oooooh I love the sights and sounds of the fair. The colours, the food, the atmosphere! You couldn't choose a more fun filled theme. Here are some ideas on how to achieve it.

♥ Start with primary colors like red and blue and add brights and candy hues.

♥ I love the idea of a hot dog stand, serving mini hot dogs and snowcones.

♥ How cool would it be to set up games like darts. You set up a board of bright water balloons and have prizes for those who pop them. That should keep them amused while you have your photos done.

♥ Hang lots and lots of colourful bunting flags, ribbons, and streamers like these fabric streamers

If there was a lesson I learned during the planning of my wedding, it was that if

I'd asked for more help, I would undoubtedly have saved a TON of money while maintaining

a lovely day to be proud of.

I know in the throes of planning you can get lost in the tiny (teeny tiny even) details.

I really believe that when you involve family and friends, your wedding becomes more joyful for everybody. However, this means you have to let go a little...yes, you can do it. Just relax a bit!

After all, your wedding is about your love for your groom, and your love for family and friends.

I have done posts like this before yes... but its a subject we all can relate to.

Here are some ideas where you could utilise possible talents of those who surround you...

Have your Cake

Do you have an aunt/gran/friend can bake a great cake?

Just look at these lovlies below...The beautiful cakes in these pictures do not require a professional cake decorator. Imagine a few fresh flowers placed lovingly on top and voila! A very on trend wedding cake. Show pictures of what you want, and you'll get it I'm sure.

Alternatively...if you have several

members of the posse who make a 'signature' dessert that makes you drool...have a dessert

bar in lieu of a cake! Anything goes these days and its all in the presentation my friends.

Cakes, cookies, pies, slices, fudge...mmmmmmm!

The Handy-man can

DIY is big!

My lovely Papa was happy to bang together a sign post similar to the photo here. It took him a few minutes and it really looked great.

If you know some one who is handywith their handies, embrace the rustic look of DIY.
Wedding arches, table decor, photo booth backdrops , bench seats made out of logs, dance floors, cake tables, etcetera, etcetera... Oh the possibilities! Custom made for next to nothing!

Be creative!!

Do me a favor

Mum makes a great jam, my sister does an awesome tomato chutney. How lovely to walk away from a wedding with a beautiful jar of homemade conserves. There are printable

downloads of labels available through out the web like this one from Ruby and willow over at

postcards and pretties.

Uncle Bob loves his gardening and every seed he plants germinates into a beautiful, healthy plant. OK I don't really have an uncle Bob but I'm sure you all have someone like him around. I think plant favors are a great green option for gifts.

So... I think you see what I'm getting at. The biggest new trend for weddings is DIY. Combine that with the global push to be friendly to the environment... and it all makes perfect sense. You must be brave and ask for help. Believe me, most people will feel honored at being part of your special day.

Its a slow Saturday, consisting of cleaning and reading vegetarian cookbooks. I am so out of inspiration today. Which is rather disappointing on my day off for writing blog posts. =/

So I thought today I would take it slow on you guys too, overloading you with too much inspiration can make your Wedding planning more confusing. [Or at least that is my excuse for my lack of it!]

Sweet dreams

I have a really major obsession with soft dreamy colours. I can't help it. When I see palest pinks and soft grays side by side it makes me go all girly. Add to that my other addiction, which is sugar, sugar products and anything made with sugar! I went with a pale gray/latte and peachy pinks for my March wedding, and I have to admit, it was pretty challenging to pull off without looking washed out, but the end result was beautiful and so romantic. ( In my opinion :)

Fare thee well, chair covers...

Outdoor Weddings, and alternative locations as we know, are the big thing right now. And though {thankfully} many venues and locations are able to supply you with nice chairs, some fail miserably in this department, and seem to think it is okay to offer a selection of white and green plastic patio chairs as ceremony seating.
Some {not many, but some} Wedding venues can sometimes be rather lenient, and will allow you to hire in chairs from another vendor - some even work in conjunction with hire companies - which allows you to select some more attractive chairs for your guests to be seated on. It is at extra cost, but if you are anything like me, every little detail is important, and you want your wedding to be a stress free as is possible!

So today, I bring you a board free of chair covers and organza bows.
I know it's been done before, but I can't get enough of it!

sunshine yellow and sea green

In general most colour combos's can be done well and look beautiful, and they can be done badly and hurt your eyes. Aqua and yellow is one of those mixes that can really, really jar the senses. My advice would be to not use the two colours together everywhere. Perhaps just stick to white and yellow with touches of turquoise. Another way to soften the look would be pair it with a soft neutral like grey or beige.

I feel as though I am spoiling you rotten with eye candy this week!

Sometimes I think it would be several kinds of awesome to have bright, statement-making colours for a Wedding theme. But then I panic that I could never make it look as good as other Brides manage. Not all of us are courageous enough to opt for a bold, colourful palette for our Wedding, so I am pretty sure Textures are the next best option for making a statement, without your Wedding looking like a Circus Tent.

Opt for Interesting hairstyles for the Wedding Party, or different textured fabrics for ties.

Think feathers and lace tablecloths, textured icing on the cake. There are so many options, you could just go nuts with it!

Ah, another week begins!
I hope you didn't get up to anything too strenuous over your weekend!

DIY- Bird cake toppers

Here's how to make your very own cute Birdie cake toppers. They'll look gorgeous on top of your wedding cake!

You will need:

Assorted fabric- I found mine in the quilting section at Spotlight including tulle for the veil.

Some nice sharp scissors, some pins, a pen or pencil, a sewing machine ( or a needle and thread) and some old pillow stuffing. ( you can buy stuffing from spotlight also.)

Bits and pieces to decorate with. Glue. Skewers.

Think about your colour theme when you choose your fabric.

1- Sketch a bird shape onto fabric. Make it bigger than you want it, as once sewn it will be smaller. Also exaggerate the shape as it will be less sharp when you've finished.

The size should be in proportion with the size of your cake.

2- fold fabric in half and pin in place so that when you cut, you cut 2 shapes at once.

3- place fabric pieces back to back so the bird will be inside out. Sew around edges leaving a 2cm gap along the bottom.

4- Turn the bird in the right way (this is a little tricky).

5- stuff with polyester stuffing. Make as fat as you like. The sew the 2cm gap closed.

6- For the bride I made a veil by cutting a 7cm square piece of tulle and gathering it one end which I sewed onto the girl bird.

7- Decorate with strings of beads, diamantes, feathers, buttons or black headed pins for eyes etc. Be creative and use your theme!

Goth Nouveau

I know when you think of Gothic, you generally imagine of the modern sub-culture of white faces, black eyeliner, dark mesh, chains and leather...

But what I'm really loving at the moment is gothic romanticisim. Medieval tables laden with pomegranates and grapes, gothic architecture, dark woods and deep rich red. It has such an atmosphere. I think if you were getting married around Halloween and you're into that kind of thing, it could be fun to have a subtle gothic feel. I must stress the subtle.

I am the first to admit that I am not the most fashion forward out of the team here at The Ivory Dahlia. But I have stumbled across some lovely hair styles, and a few frocks from 'Hollywoodland' in my web surfing. So thought I would give the fashion/beauty side of things a go!

If I could have anybody's hair, it would be Kristen Stewart's. It makes me wish my hair would grow longer than shoulder length. =[
This hairstyle almost makes me weak at the knees! It would look perfect at a low key wedding, and wouldn't need a veil!

I would also like to introduce you to my new favourite Hollywood couple. Shia LaBeouf and Carey Mulligan. I saw "An Education" last month, and fell in love with Carey Mulligan. These are two of the most stylish celebrities around. I love her short crop, and the Vintage-Modern style they have both adopted. Love love love!
The style on the left is sooooo cute for a wedding! Imagine teaming that with a birdcage veil. Adorable!
And the dress on the right? I have no words. The colour is gorgeous. And the silhouette is to die for.

Wedding stationary is a little preview of your big day for the guests. Its fun to get the excitement up by sending invitations that have everyone talking about your upcoming wedding!

During my planning process, I was in a fix trying to find a stationary designer who shared my love of beautiful typography and modern design, when, by divine intervention, I saw a Ruby & Willow ad in one of the hundreds wedding magazines I had. Kate (the lovely designer) is based in Auckland, and I am in Christchurch, so I wasn't sure she would take on me on, but when I called, she was so friendly and helpful! We kept in close contact via email,

and the end result was AMAZING!!
